My, My, My” was the second single from Johnny Gill’s self-titled album after joining New Edition. One would think that a song with a chorus simply comprised of the words my, my, my or shoop, shoop might not be a hit, but that is the magic and brilliance of Babyface and L.A. Reid. And what a hit it was. It went to #1 on the R&B chart and many could argue it is his signature song. From Kenny G’s saxophone introduction, to After 7 on the background vocals, to Johnny alternating notes while singing “my” at the end of the song–it is perfection. Johnny Gill said he titled his new project Still Winning because of his longevity in the industry, but he won the title the day he recorded this song. “My, My, My” is an undisputed champion.
