Of course Tyrese had to give you a remix in response to his hit song “Stay”. Tyrese gets an assist from both Rick Ross and Faith Evans, but the addition of Faith alone would have still made for a good remix. I appreciate the fact that the remix is a full on remix- with a different melody, different tempo, and a few new lyrics added in. While the original “Stay” was for the bedroom, this one’s for the dance floor. Open Invitation is available at Amazon.com and ITunes.com.
Tyrese Gibson is known as a man of many talents. Since he has been focusing so strongly on his acting talent for the last few years, it has become almost easy to forget that he originally became a star based on his musical talent. Tyrese is one of those artists that when he is good, he is really good, creating classic, modern r&b. On the other hand, when he misses, well…. The good news for fans is that he is very good on “Open Invitation”. I’ll admit that I approached this project with more than a little caution. The music industry is thirsting for solid albums that you can play with little to no skipping around tracks. Most of the current great music is coming from artists who are not as well known as Tyrese, so it’s nice to have someone with such a high level of fame work hard to maintain the quality of his product.

If you missed ATL Live on the Park last week, you missed a great event. With guests like Andre Harrell, Pebbles Reid, Tyrese, Q Parker of the group, 112 and many more, the stars were literally aligned for a very special night of good music and a good time. First on the stage was Harrell Records’ flagship group, Hamilton Park. Now as a person whose teenage years and early twenties were filled with harmony groups like Boyz II Men, Shai, Jodeci, Intro, Az Yet, Dru Hill and the list goes on, I was very interested in seeing what the next generation had in store. In really observing Hamilton Park’s stage show I can say honestly they weren’t bad but I really believe they required more work to embody the “full” spirit of the 90′s male groups they were striving to resemble. Now I will give them credit for having some stage presence through certain coordinated moves, expression of emotional enthusiasm and not resorting to the overdone sex driven songs that are very typical, however I felt like their vocals and harmony blend weren’t as impactful and strong as I had hoped to experience in key moments behind the band. Given this was Hamilton Park’s first performance, I would really like to see them some time down the road to observe their progress and growth under the tutelage of Mr. Harrell. Other honorable mentions on the stage included the soulful voice of Noel Gourdin with his Billboard charting single, The River and the vocal styling of former American Idol finalist, Anoop Desai . But the highlight of the night was the one and only Ms. Kelly Price. Taking us back with songs like Secret Love, Friend of Mine with some help from Q Parker of 112 and belting out the Shirley Murdock cover, As We Lay, you couldn’t help but stand to your feet and yell like you were in the third row pew at church. Kelly’s voice was absolutely powerful with her improvisational and rich sound in her new single Tired – and to think she was actually fighting allergies during this performance.
Now we know everyone else has given you the pics but you know how we do it here…….we give you the full experience! Roll the video!!! :) (more…)
Last week was quite the week for the remix. While I’m an advocate of creativity and stamping your own individuality to a song, I do have boundaries when it comes to certain songs. The other week I was glad to see artists coming together for the relief efforts in Haiti however the remake of “We Are the World” shouldn’t have been the song they rallied behind. I can’t say the remix didn’t have “any” hopeful moments but honestly the bad faded out the good efforts. I, like many fans, probably agree with Jay’s statement given to MTV about the remake efforts.
“I’m a fan of music. I know the plight and everything that’s going on in Haiti. … So I appreciate the efforts and everything, but We Are the World is [musically] untouchable like Thriller is untouchable. It was a valiant effort, but for me, it’s gonna be untouchable.”
Truthfully, there are some songs that just have a magic. Maybe the stars are perfectly aligned or Jupiter just happens to rise in Leo’s moon – hell, I don’t know, but they have a timeless, “Sistine Chapel” appeal to them. In this case, “We Are The World” happens to be one of those songs. Unfortunately, when you touch a song of that caliber, it can lose the magic and take an awful turn as we saw in that remake. Another song that’s been placed on the assembly line for a “spit shine” remix is (more…)
