GFM is proud to feature one of the most exciting artists on the scene today as our Artist of the Month for May. In a musical landscape that often celebrates homogeny over individuality Janelle Monae is a streak of red in an often gray soundstage. This Kansas City Kansas native continues to win over audiences around the world through her futuristic genre-defying musical output. The long awaited Arch Android project is finally here in all of it’s diverse, frenetic glory. It’s refreshing to see that she was allowed to be herself and just “do her”. What a concept. For that, we applaud all parties involved and encourage to you to support Janelle and if you get the chance to see her perform live, please do so. She’s an amazing entertainer.

It’s everything you would expect from Janelle. Directed by Wendy Morgan (Gnarls Barkley, Dragonette), this video manages to capture the energy of the song and showcases her dancing and incredible live performance skills. And, with Big Boi on top, what else do you want?? The album, Arch Android, is scheduled for release in May.
