I had the great pleasure of seeing Rhonda Thomas and Avery Sunshine show out at The Quad back in February 2011 when I first heard them sing this song, “Just Us”. If the tune sounds a bit familiar, it’s originally the disco cut from the men lovin’ duo, The Weather Girls. Soooooo, sit back, relax, enjoy this video and purchase this cut at www.rhondasings.com for your “housecleaning” playlist. LOL!

From the funk groove of Do Your Thing, the jazz inspired plea of Listen and the nostalgic cover of That’s All, this concert had a musical blend for every palette. As if the universe planned it… after yesterday’s mini-tribute to Isaac Hayes this great new music from Rhonda Thomas hits the inbox. A touching tribute to her mentor, Rhonda explains the story behind the recording:
“Wow! Where do I start? I was already familiar with this song coming up in the soul era. My dad loved Isaac Hayes. So when I got the opportunity to sing background for him, my friend and bass player Kurt Mitchell suggested that I ask Isaac to sing the song with him as a duet. The rest is history. I had the opportunity to sing with Isaac Hayes for 11 years and was a featured vocalist on the song with him. I knew I wanted his presence on my CD, so what better way to pay homage to him. I wanted this song to honor Isaac’s original music but I wanted to update it just a little. I love the direction we went with this. My favorite line is “I do my thang I work my thang-thang sing my thang-thang. Thank you Isaac ‘cause you helped me do my thang-thang”. Peaceful Blessings to You Isaac!!”
