Grammy Nominated: Kelly Price

Sunday, February 5th, 2012

R&B veteran Kelly Price is nominated for three Grammys this year. Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song for “Not My Daddy” featuring Stokley of Mint Condition. Kelly Price is also nominated for Best R&B Album for her sixth album Kelly.

Prior to becoming a recording artist, Kelly Price made a name for herself in the R&B world in the ’90s as a background vocalist and writer for many artists such as Mariah Carey, Faith Evans, Whitney Houston, Yolanda Adams, The Isley Brothers and R. Kelly to name a few.

This year’s three nominations make a total of seven Grammy nominations for Kelly Price. To find out if she will win, tune in to the Grammy Awards on February 12 at 8/7c on CBS.

[Album Review] Kelly Price: “Kelly” Proves “R&B Ain’t Going Nowhere”!!!

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

R&B isn’t going anywhere! Any form of music requires rhythm and if it’s gonna have soul, you need a little blues so R&B ain’t going nowhere!

-Kelly Price

Since her debut album, Soul of a Woman, Kelly Price has been known for her soul stirring vocals. Reminiscent of vocal powerhouses like Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston with a sparking songwriter’s hand, Kelly’s artistry has always carried an authentic approach to R&B.  However with so many chart topping artists who lack  the vocal range and songwriting skills to say anything meaningful, you wonder whether this honest art form of R&B and its rich tradition would make a definite comeback?  Would we lose appreciation for the melodic and mature story lines along with the emotional connection we’ve always known in this genre? After listening to Kelly’s current album release, Kelly,  I can honestly say she’s given a solid case and strongly defended the statement, “R&B ain’t going nowhere”. (more…)

New Music: “Himaholic” from Kelly Price’s “Kelly” Album!

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

Ok ladies, I gotta ask you the following questions:

  • Have you ever been completely addicted to “him” to the point of needing a support group to recover?
  • Lately you’ve started to check your voicemail 60 times a day because you know at any minute your “him” is gonna call?
  • You’ve been soooo turned out by “him” , you’re curled up in a ball rocking yourself back and forth like Pookie from New Jack City?
  • Your friends tell you your “him” ain’t no good and you end up saying, “Well, maybe you ain’t been in love like I’ve been in love – and maybe you’ve never felt the things that I’ve felt!!” (in your Lenny Williams voice)

If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, you are officially a Himaholic. Now as a recovering Himaholic, I have to say the road will be long but you will make it through. There will come that joyous day when you will look at your “him” and say to yourself, ” What the f*$# was I doing with dis fool?” But the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. So let us have Sister Kelly Price confess and testify on her new single, Himaholic from the upcoming album in stores May 3rd, Kelly.

Come on, ladies – tell the truth & shame the devil!!! :)

[Video & Pics]Kelly Price, Noel Gourdin, Anoop Desai & Hamilton Park at ATL Live!!!

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

Ms. Kelly Price

If you missed ATL Live on the Park last week, you missed a great event. With guests like Andre Harrell, Pebbles Reid, Tyrese, Q Parker of the group, 112 and many more,  the stars were literally aligned for a very special night of good music and a good time. First on the stage was Harrell Records’ flagship group, Hamilton Park. Now as a person whose teenage years and early twenties were filled with harmony groups like Boyz II Men, Shai, Jodeci, Intro, Az Yet, Dru Hill and the list goes on, I was very interested in seeing what the next generation had in store. In really observing Hamilton Park’s stage show I can say honestly they weren’t bad but I really believe they required more work to embody the “full” spirit of the 90′s male groups they were striving to resemble. Now I will give them credit for having some stage presence through certain coordinated moves, expression of emotional  enthusiasm and not resorting to the overdone sex driven songs that are very typical, however  I felt like their vocals and harmony blend weren’t as impactful and strong as I had hoped to experience  in key moments behind the band. Given this was Hamilton Park’s first performance, I would really like to see them some time down the road to observe their progress and growth under the tutelage of Mr. Harrell. Other honorable mentions on the stage included the soulful voice of Noel Gourdin with his Billboard charting single, The River and the vocal styling of former American Idol finalist, Anoop Desai . But the highlight of the night was the one and only Ms. Kelly Price. Taking us back with songs like Secret Love, Friend of Mine with some help from Q Parker of 112  and belting out the Shirley Murdock cover, As We Lay,  you couldn’t help but stand to your feet and yell like you were in the third row pew at church. Kelly’s voice was absolutely powerful with her improvisational and rich sound in her new single Tired – and to think she was actually fighting allergies during this performance.

Now we know everyone else has given you the pics but you know how we do it here…….we give you the full experience! Roll the video!!!  :)

New Music-Kelly Price ft. Stokely “Not My Daddy”

Saturday, January 8th, 2011

What’s that I hear??? Real R&B music? I’ve been throwing subtle hints over the last two years that I have been writing here at GFM that the music, this music was on its way back. Of course we all know that great music, great musicianship and great writing didn’t really go away but with so much garbage masquerading as R&B it is very easy to fall prey to the Jedi-Mind tricks.
