Yeah, we know it’s “Valentine’s Day” but who said we gotta pay Cupid some damn tribute!!!! If you’re one of those lovesick puppies and hopeless romantics looking for your fix on V-Day, we got your fix but it sure as hell ain’t what you think!!! On this day of love, we wanted to send Cupid a special mixtape! A list of songs that really express our deep passion in the subject of amour. So if love has kicked you in the ass, made a complete fool of you, had you crying like Lenny Williams and broadcasted your shame all over Facebook and Twitter, then welcome my friends to our official “F!ck, Cupid,!!” mixtape!! A Valentine’s mix that is sure to have you burning down someone’s car and lighting a cigarette afterward!!!
And Cupid, in case you missed our sentiments, let us say it again……….”F**K YOU!!!” (in my Cee-Lo voice) (more…)
Great stuff as always from DJ Kemit, as he presents his Donny Hathaway tribute mix as promo in conjunction with the live tribute last night in Atlanta. By all accounts, it was an incredible event featuring Avery Sunshine, Carmen Rodgers, Terrance Downs, India Arie and Frank McComb.
With all the talk of Donny Hathaway this week and his upcoming tribute in Atlanta, we thought we’d share this clip of India’s performance at this years BET Honors. For updates on her upcoming project, be sure to check out her SoulBird website. Props to Kelli for the reminder and the clip!
As we’ve often stated, our belief is that GFM is not just ‘old school’, but among other things, it is real, true, thought provoking and timeless music. The annointed PJ Morton encompasses all of that and so much more.
The terms prodigy, classic and genius are often thrown around and frankly overused. However, they are all applicable in this case. If you’ve had the opportunity to see him perform live, then you’ll attest to this. If not, make it a point to do so. His new album, Walk Alone, will be released on April 6th. If you know like I know, you’ll pre-order it from Amazon here, or iTunes here.
He has been appearing at meet and greets around the country as well as live streaming the album just the other night. Trust me, it’s your boy! I wouldn’t steer you wrong. Cop it now and thank us later. Catch a peek below and more after the jump.
It’s been said, if Grace Jones and Prince had a child… the result would be Rahbi! And, if you’ve ever had the pleasure of watching him perform, you’d likely agree. He’s an amazing singer, songwriter, dancer as well as a very entertaining and energetic performer.
A long time staple on the Indie Soul scene, the Atlanta native has performed with Donnie, India Arie, Algebra, Trina Broussard, PJ Morton and many others. I recently saw him open up for Rahsaan Pattersonand he did not disappoint. Check him out all over the web and coming soon to a city near you!
