Grammy Nominated: Raphael Saadiq

Thursday, February 9th, 2012

Raphael Saadiq is a music veteran. He started playing the bass guitar at the age of six. When he was barely 18, he auditioned and won a spot in Sheila E.’s backing band for Prince’s Parade tour. Raphael Saadiq is probably best known as one-third of the R&B group Tony!Toni!Tone!, which put out some bonafide jams in the ’90s like “Feels Good” and Anniversary”. Saadiq put out his first solo album in 2002 and since then he has been no stranger to Grammy nominations. This year’s nomination for Best Traditional R&B performance for the song “Good Man”, from the album Stone Rollin makes a total of 12 nominations of Raphael Saadiq. He has won one. To see if Raphael Saadiq will win this year, check out the Grammy Awards on February 12 at 8/7c on CBS.

Grammy Nominated: Cee Lo Green

Thursday, February 9th, 2012

Cee Lo Green is nominated for three Grammy Awards this year– Best R&B Song and Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Fool For You”, the throwback, soulful duet with Melanie Fiona.

We were first introduced to Cee Lo Green as part of the rap ensemble Goodie Mob, but he may have become best known in the mainstream as part of the duo Gnarls Barkley when the song “Crazy” took off all over the world. Since then Cee Lo has taken the world by storm and gained more crossover appeal as a judge on the television music competition The Voice and because of his 2010 album The Lady Killer, which is still going strong and is nominated this year for Best Pop Vocal Album. To find out if Cee Lo wins, watch the Grammy Awards February 12 at 8/7c on CBS.

Grammy Nominated: Ledisi

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

Ledisi is nominated for an outstanding three Grammys this year; Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song for the single “Pieces Of Me”, and Best R&B Album for the album Pieces Of Me.

And to think that at one time she seriously considered leaving the music industry because she was unsure of where she fit in.

It’s a good thing she didn’t leave because in 2007 she joined the Verve music label and released her third album Lost & Found. The album earned Ledisi her first two Grammy nominations and she’s been getting the Grammy nod ever since. Ledisi’s 2009 album Turn Me Loose earned her two more Grammy nominations. So, combined with this year’s nominations, Ledisi has a total of seven Grammy nominations under her belt.

Look at what happens when you just hang on and “do you”. To find out if Ledisi wins, tune in to the Grammy Awards on February 12 at 8/7c on CBS.

Grammy Nominated: Charlie Wilson

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

Charlie Wilson, affectionately known as “Uncle Charlie”, has two 2012 Grammy nominations for Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance for his hit song “You Are”, from his latest CD Just Charlie; a song on which is wife is also a co-writer. ”You Are” held the #1 position on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart for 13 weeks.

Charlie Wilson’s music goes back to the ’80s when he and his brothers Ronnie and Robert put out funkalicious jams such as “Outstanding”, “You Dropped A Bomb On Me” and others as The Gap Band.  His influence can be heard in the vocal stylings of R. Kelly and Aaron Hall. Although drug and alcohol drug addiction almost overcame him after the band broke up, Wilson has reemerged and triumphed as a revered artist who is sought after by Hip-Hop and R&B artists to collaborate on their music; thus introducing him to a new generation of fans.  “Uncle Charlie” is truly the comeback kid– he was also nominated for two Grammys in 2010. To find out if he will win this year, tune in to the Grammy Awards February 12 at 8/7c on CBS.

Grammy Nominated: Marsha Ambrosius

Monday, February 6th, 2012

Marsha Ambrosius was already known as 1/2 of the group Floetry, and as a songwriter. She most famously wrote the song “Butterflies” for Michael Jackson and she’s also written for other artists. But, she had to wait a minute to get put on as a solo artist. She was originally signed to Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment Label in 2009, but left and finally released her debut solo album Late Nights & Early Mornings through J Records (J Records disbanded in 2011. Marsha Ambrosius will release future material through RCA Records). And she put it down too. Marsha Ambrosius is nominated for two Grammy Awards: Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song for “Far Away”. Tune in to the Grammy Awards on February 12, 8/7c on CBS to find out if she wins.

R&B veteran Kelly Price is nominated for three Grammys this year. Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song for “Not My Daddy” featuring Stokley of Mint Condition. Kelly Price is also nominated for Best R&B Album for her sixth album Kelly.
