R&B Crooner, songwriter and actor Eric Benét has successfully released five albums and is currently gearing up for the release of his sixth album entitled The One, which is slated for a Spring 2012 release. Very appropriately named, Benét’s new album The One marks a moment of positive transition in his life and lyrically speaks to the many new beginnings developing in his career and family. The One will also be the first album released on Benét’s newly formed record label Jordan House Records, which he created in partnership with EMI.
“Real Love” (available on iTunes) is the first single off Benét’s new forthcoming album The One and was the #1 added song to Urban AC when shipped to radio in October 2011 and is currently #14 on the Urban AC chart and climbing quickly. This new single is a taste of what to expect on Benét’s new album, which he describes as a “very contemporary approach to old-school songwriting integrity”. The One will also feature his signature mid-70s soul groove, a variety of instruments from strings to horns to featured artists and even a duet with his first daughter India.
Grammy Nomination
Eric Benét was also recently nominated for a 2012Grammy Award for “Best Traditional R&B Performance” for his single “Sometimes I Cry”, up against artists Cee Lo Green (“Fool For You” feat Melanie Fiona), R. Kelly (“Radio Message”), Raphael Saadiq (“Good Man”), Betty Wright & The Roots (“Surrender”). The Grammy Awards will air on Sunday February 12th, 2012.
Originally slated for an unreleased Eric Benét album our cover and song of the day was the lead single for our Artist of the Month’s Outrun The Sky project. With a great groove and melodic line, this production reminds you of the days when R&B had not forsaken its defining elements in search of broader acceptance and appeal to a demographic that seems to get younger every year.
Yeah, we know it’s “Valentine’s Day” but who said we gotta pay Cupid some damn tribute!!!! If you’re one of those lovesick puppies and hopeless romantics looking for your fix on V-Day, we got your fix but it sure as hell ain’t what you think!!! 20 yrs ago a friend and ventured on a 20-30min ride outside of Atlanta to go see Quincy Jones’ documentary “Listen up”. To say we were awe struck was an understatement. But it is safe to say that we were forever Quincy Jones fans….and students.
Fast forward 20 yrs and Q releases a new disc “Soul Bossanostra”. My friend and I are split on it. He bought it and thinks it’s pretty good. I signed the save Q from himself petition on GFM! Who am I to criticize Quincy Jones?! The man has certainly done his share for music. However I do wish he would’ve leaned more on his musical ear instead of his commercial eye.
But instead of complaining I decided to play a little game. If I had to “share” my suggestions w/Quincy about the direction to take for a project here’s what I would’ve suggested for the Dude!
Project Title: Genius in the Key of Quincy
1. The Roots,Jill Scott, Badu,Mos Def, Talib,Common, Bilal, Jaguar Wright, Q-Tip,Jazzyphatnastees – Listen Up
Interlude of the Roots playing a score piece from one of Q’s films
2. Raphael Saadiq - Light up the Night(Brothers Johnson cover)
Interlude of Saadiq & Joss Stone jamming on “It’s my party”
3. Sy Smith & Lettuce – Razzamatazz (BGV- Lalah,Rahsahaan,Ledisi, Kenya Hathaway, Bilal)
Interlude of Lettuce playing a film score (more…)
“Bravo, Benet, Bravo”. (throws roses, condoms, underwear and EBT card)
The barefoot bandit has done it/is doing it again (no pun intended).
He did a fantastic job on this ballad and is totally capable of luring any willing woman into a place of vulnerability with that falsetto confession.
This is the type of song that will have you explaining to your friends, when they ask you why your Facebook status changed from “Single” to “It’s complicated”.
I hope WHOMEVER Eric was talking about, Halle she will reconsider because, CHILE, that kind of lip quivering and tear-dropping can’t be good for the soul.
