It’s 6:37pm and the line is already wrapped around Chastain Park Amphitheater. Parking lots are quickly filling up with excited fans and bona fide tailgaters ready to toast the night fantastic. On my way to the gate entry, I meet a gentleman by the name of Mr. Humphrey along with his wife who’ve been long time fans and returning concertgoers of the headlining group. Later, I bumped into seven college friends reuniting for their yearly get together and another couple celebrating 16 years of wedded bliss. With the air filled with a spirit of celebration and reunion, what other group could inspire this type of anticipation by simply “singing a song”? None other than the six time Grammy Award winning band, Earth, Wind & Fire. (more…)
GFM Fam wanted to put you onto the great sounds of Bio Ritmo, which I’ve had the pleasure of getting down to many times over the years as a longtime Central VA resident. There sound is the truth, the live shows are a non-stop party, top-notch musicianship and writing and it would do you groove quotient and boogie mobility a great service if you can catch them out live or by getting their latest recorded offering or for that matter check out the entire discography which you can find here. I’ve been listening to it for weeks and my favorite is constantly changing. (This week it’s the very smooth “Nunca Sabras“). With a nice mix of varied tempo’s, featured artists include Rena Scott, LeNora Jaye, Simone, Stephanie Renee and Katie Cole among others. It’s one that you can put on and just let it ride. You can’t say that about too many albums these days.
You can listen to another favorite, “From Me To You” f/Shanell Rene’e after the jump.
“Slippin into darkness
Take my mind beyond the dreams
I was slippin into darkness
Take my mind beyond the dreams
Where I talk to my brother, oh, oh, oh
Who never said their name
Slippin into darkness
When I heard my mother say
I was slippin into darkness
When I heard my mother say
(Hey, what’d she say, what’d she say)
You been slippin into darkness, oh, oh, oh
Pretty soon youre gonna pay”
1971, off the All Day Music album, “Slippin Into Darkness”

After the tremendous response of their first two singles, “Point of No Return” and “Exposed To Love”, it was clear that an entirely new era of dance music was about to spread around the world.
Some called it “The Miami Sound”, others referred to it as Freestyle, 80′s Dance, Dance/Pop. We knew them as Exposé and one thing was for certain…music would never be the same again. Exposé consisted of Jeanette Jurado, Gioia Bruno, and Ann Curless.
Tierra had a nice run in the 70′s & 80′s with their Latin flavored soul covers. Combining rock, soul, funk, salsa & jazz, they were one of the more innovative and fun bands during that time. They’re still performing, so if you have the opportunity to catch them, check them out, you’ll definitely have a good time.
