Sade “Love is Found”

Saturday, July 16th, 2011

While her sold out tour is enrapturing audiences across North America, Sade is simultaneously releasing new music.  “Love is Found” comes from the recently released “Ultimate Collection”.  The track showcases the trademark smooth simplicity that has carried both Sade and her band Sweetback to the top of the charts over and over throughout the past three decades.  Even though the track carries a familiarity in both lyrics and melody, there is an additional technical sound that has been added to the track. Because of this, the track is sonically more similar to the title track of her last original recording “Soldier of Love” than it is to the rest of her catalog. This mesh of both new and familiar sounds will satisfy original Sade fans as well as garner new fans.

GFM Spotlight: Dayna Lynn

Friday, August 6th, 2010

The delivery of the quintessential artist: the message, the music, the voice …
The facile melodic lines she weaves are enough to make anyone a believer. So, if you think you’ve made up your mind about jazz, hold the verdict because the jury’s still out. Dayna Lynn is redefining this American art form for the 21st century by bridging the gap between generations: she is introducing some and reacquainting others with jazz.

Both contemporary and classic, Dayna Lynn’s music is called Progressive Soul-Jazz: where intricate harmonies make a bed for smoothly executed melodies. It combines the heart of soul music with the intellect of jazz. Her songs are carefully composed masterpieces where she is both songwriter and arranger. As food for the mind and water for the spirit, her lyrics create a looking glass through which her listeners see themselves and their world, and are thus motivated to make a change.

Dayna Lynn’s upcoming release, “The Call” (June 2010), is fresh and timeless. The music is familiar yet, unmistakably unique. The title track was written in 2005 and inspired by the violence and ongoing crisis in Darfur, Sudan. However, it is an anthem for peace everywhere and a herald to all people: peace is the answer. The album is full of soulful grooves and jazz-laced classic songs that seek to galvanize and empower the masses.

A graduate of Chicago’s premiere fine arts high school, The Chicago Academy for the Arts, Dayna Lynn is a singer, songwriter, pianist and flautist. She also has a Bachelor of Arts in vocal jazz from Webster University in St. Louis. She has music directed and composed/arranged music for several musical theatre productions including Congo Square Theatre’s Black Nativity (adapted by Mike Malone) and Ifa Bayeza’s The Adventures Kid Zero.

SoulBounce.com Presents ‘Men Love Mary’: A Tribute To ‘My Life’

Friday, December 4th, 2009

Gotta give props to the good folks over at Soul Bounce for always bringing great music, new artists and concepts to the people. Well, they certainly didn’t disappoint with this one. 9 male artists covering Mary as you’ve never heard before. Each one, produced and performed magnificently but still maintaining their own artistic presence. Hard to do, when it comes to Mary, but listen for yourself and let us know what you think about it. This project is GFM Certified! Yes, Men Love Mary and we do too!

Fifteen years ago Mary J. Blige released My Life, a breakthrough album chronicling her inner struggles while catapulting her to superstardom as the Queen of Hip Hop Soul. In celebration of this milestone, we gathered nine dynamic male artists to record re-imaginings of their favorite My Life songs for Men Love Mary: A Tribute to My Life, a digital EP presented by SoulBounce. The EP is hosted by one of Bad Boy’s legendary “Hitmen,” Chucky Thompson, who was a key producer on the My Life album.

My Life was a pivotal point in Mary’s career where her voice shined as a beacon of hope and understanding to men and women all over the world. Men Love Mary: A Tribute to My Life offers a fresh perspective from Eric Roberson, Jesse Boykins III, Slakah the Beatchild, Nino Moschella, Bradd Marquis, TL Cross, Darien, D Maurice, Fave and Siik–a new generation of artists inspired by her sincerity, longevity and artistry. My Life was about Mary’s relationship with one man, and now many men have reinterpreted these songs in an effort to pay tribute to an artist who has given us so much of herself.

New Nicolay: Lose Your Way feat. Carlitta Durand

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Nicolay (one half of the group The Foreign Exchange) has unveiled “Lose Your Way” from his upcoming album Shibuya (City Lights Volume II) which drops September 15th. The song features the newly signed Carlitta Durand who brings soft, smooth vocals to the song.

I’m really feeling the relaxed, sort of dreamy feel to it.  Looking forward the upcoming CD, definitely keep an eye out for that one. Check out the song below — what do you think?

Nicolay says about the new album: “It truly is like stepping into a different world”, says Nicolay about his trip to the city. “What fascinated me most about Shibuya was the co-existence of ‘old’ and ‘new’ in seemingly perfect harmony. The most advanced technologies and innovations exist next to traditions that are rooted in thousands of years of civilization.”
